Manica Nawaz is selected as a 2026 NHERI RAPID - Natural Hazards & Disaster Reconnaissance Scholar

During the 2024 hurricane season, Tropical Storm Alberto and Hurricane Beryl worked in tandem to breach the peninsula. Building on immediate post-storm data collected in September 2024, Manica will use drone-based LiDAR to quantify rates of washover accretion, vertical barrier growth, and shoreline change. This data will build on drone-based lidar datasets that was collected by a BC-led research team in 2024 to assess multi-year evolution of a barrier island breach.
